Other activities to try at home!
Practicing at home is key to your child's success! Here are some ideas of things you can do at home, in the car or even at Grandma's!
*Practice your ABC's. Don't just sing them, say them, write them, order the letters, match capital and lower case, practice the sounds that each letter makes. While driving, see if you can find the letters of the alphabet, in order, using license plate, signs, writing on trucks. Can you think of words that start with each letter?
*Practice your numbers. Write, name, count, match numbers to objects.
*Play a number game in the car. Find the numbers 0-9, in order, using license plates, street signs or house numbers. Can you do it backwards?
*Play rhyming games. Say a word and see how many words you can think of that rhyme.
*Work on hand strengthening by using spray bottles in the bath tub, tweezers to pick up small objects, "squishy toys" to squeeze, or scissors to cut thick paper.
*Most important...READ, READ, READ!
Remember to ask questions like:
What do you think will happen next?
Who are the characters?
What is the setting?
How many words are on this page?
Can you find sight words or letters that you know?
What happened first in the story? Next? Last?
